Royal Oak Pale Ale
A Pale Ale of Noble Character
The Royal Oak legend relates how King Charles II narrowly escaped capture by the Parliamentary army after the Battle of Worcester in 1651. The future King and a loyal General hid in the branches of a great oak for a day and a night while Cromwell’s Roundheads searched in vain below them.
The story inspired hundreds of English pub names—and one genuinely great English ale.
Royal Oak is a pale ale of noble character in the grand tradition of British country brewing. Classically deep amber, rich in malt and fragrant with hop aroma, it’s a rounded, soft ale of beautifully balanced complexity and lasting finish.
In recreating Royal Oak for Phoenix, O’Hanlon’s have closely followed the original brewing style, with one notable exception. Instead of pasteurizing, the beer is now a true bottle-conditioned ale, alive in the bottle, for maximum flavor and authenticity.
Store at cellar temperature and serve just lightly chilled—about 55°F. Suggested food pairings.

The hallmark of a natural beer
Bottle-conditioning—a secondary fermentation in the bottle—produces a natural sparkle and a
sediment, characteristic of all live, natural beers. Allow to settle in a cool place, then pour carefully. Serve cooled, but do not over-chill. |
